Wedding embellishments: Pearls, adding sparkle to your perfect day
From the perfect glistening ring to ornate table props, ways to add sparkle to your day shouldn’t stop at the accessories, like adding a cherry on top of a cake – not essential but the perfect final touch. Gowns of the season showboat hundreds of crystals, pearls and sequins making embellishments one of the biggest bridal trends of the year. From high fashion dresses to make it yourself gowns, embellishments, weather this be detailed embroidery or baroque beads, are all the fashion this wedding season with looks that will take you down the aisle and all the way to the after party.
The 1840s. The start of the major modern wedding dress. When traditions of white dresses in western culture become prominent, with long sleeves and high collars considered the most fashionable looks due to Queen Victoria’s own dress evolving England’s view on weddings, not a million miles from the dresses we see today. This, over time, moved to shorter gowns with drop waists and crystalised silhouettes in the twenties and gorgeous lace immerging in the height of the romantic era. As ever, trends always repeat themselves – and the re-emergence of embellishment, lace and uniqueness is no acceptation.
Embellishments have been a way to add a sense of richness to classic white coloured dresses that still prevail, even with a modern audience. Most often you can still expect to see timeless elements like floral lace appliques, embroidery, and sequins. However, this year many brides have been choosing luxurious pearls, adding texture and 3d elements that glisten in the sun as well as their dancefloors.
Couture wedding designer Hermione De Paula’s wedding collection featured stunningly beaded gowns, veils and accessories highlighting the most exquisite use of pearls any bride could dream off. From scattered veils to completely pearled mesh the designs focus on pure femininity and design at the heart of the collection, putting pearls on the most beautiful wedding trend list of the year. It’s not all about high end wedding fashion, local bridal boutiques have also been favouring the iconic pearl in there looks from headwear to bodice, shining the embellishment into everyone’s weddings, a trend, brides and businesses should be embracing this season.
